Canine mascots, an introduction

Many years ago, I came across an athletic clothing store that sold university t-shirts for cheap, wicked cheap, actually. Many of the t-shirts they sold cost around $5, and before I knew it, I was walking in and out of the aisles with a cart in my hand. The store had dozens of different schools represented, but there was a common theme in the shirts I was grabbing—they all had dogs on them. This was due in part to my status as an undergraduate student at Boston University, home of the Terriers, in part to my marvel at the diversity of breeds represented, and in part to me looking to start a completely unique and random collection.

Many t-shirts later, I decided to start this blog to highlight those schools with a dog mascot and tell the story of that mascot and how it came to be. I plan on highlighting one mascot each week until I run out, then who knows. Maybe cat or bird mascots. I don’t have any particular order in mind, however, if you want your school highlighted sooner rather than later (because I’m going to get to every school), feel free to send me a t-shirt. My one request is that it has to have a dog on it. Thanks and please let me know what you think!
